If you can't take the heat, don't tickle the dragon

Someone tickled the dragon here in San Antonio - current temp at 5:30 PM? 97 degrees!! Thank goodness for water rides at Six Flags Fiesta Texas!! I got a little wet today. I'd have taken some pics, but I didn't wear the white tank-top!

Trip out here was interesting. We got to the airport only to find that our flight from Chicago to Memphis had been delayed long enough that we were not going to be
able to catch our connecting flight to San Antonio. See this storm? It wrecked havoc on flights in and out of Chicago. Solution? Rebook.

We were able to
bitch loud enough politely ask that we be rebooked on another airline rather than wait until the following day to complete the trip. We got to the airport at 3:30 and were finally able to start boarding the plane to head to San Antonio at 9:20PM, arriving just after midnight. I'll admit, the kids were amazing - rarely complaining and genrally being troopers! Too bad the other adult on this trip wasn't as well behaved.

When we finally got into San Anton
io, we grabbed our bags, picked up a rental car, and finally arrived at our destination just before 2AM. Ten hours later we were waiting in line for water rides at Six Flags!

Tomorrow? Sea World! I'll see if I can't get a lovely shot with Shamu! If not, I bet I can get a pic or two of penguin poop!!

Fun times!

Hey, the last Christmas I spent in San Antonio it was 90 degrees with 90% humidity on Christmas Day!! Enjoy! ;-)

Water rides are the best! Try not to melt.

I would have expected a little better planning from you regarding the tank top.

Nasty looking storm cloud. Looks like something from "Ghostbusters" or "Independence Day"!

Don't step in the penguin poop. You'll never get it off your shoes...

I’m glad you’re safely there, Dana. San Antonio’s a neat city; my youngest son’s ex-in-laws live in a town just northeast of there.

97, huh? It only reached 92 here today. At the moment, Alex in on the deck alternating between bathing himself and napping. The temp is now down to 82 outside, but it’s still 88 here in the house.

Have fun. Take some pics. Be safe.

Get wet with Shamu for me! It's been hotter than hell here too. Somebody tickled our dragon as well!

It's a shame when adults can't act right. You should make him stay in the room! ;) Get wet without him!

Dana said...

Tali, having fun - wish you were here *giggle*

Sage, living in Chicago, I'm quite used to the road construction!

Jeff, I plan on getting real wet today *wink*

Jay, I love this city - spent quite a bit of time here when I was in the Army, but the heat is just overwhelming!

Karen, we'll be at Sea World's Lost Lagoon today. I should be OK for another 24 hours.

Os, I even packed a white tank top ... what was I thinking?? I'll tread lightly through the penguin poop.

Nick, lot's of pics on the way today!

Buff, funny! I almost typed REBOOK, not Rebok in that post because I read it the same way!

DB, O'Hare in the spring is never a fun place to be!

Dana said...

Leighann, I should manage to get wet for you several times today!

Bond, you know, we ARE coming back thorough Memphis on the way home too! I think it's only about a 40 minute layover though - enough time to REBOK to the next gate!

RLL, I can't remember the last time I didn't get wet without him *smirk*

We are having a cold front in Texas right now. You ought to come back when it is over 100 degrees for more than 30 days. We love it when it is in the 90's. We are just having a late spring right now. Hope you and yours have fun while in Texas. Hell we still have a breeze. That won't last much longer. Margaritas on the rocks always help too. Tequilla does a body good. Have fun.

Glad you made it safe. Sea World in San Antono is my favorite. I jus took a 10 hour road trip with the hubby and 3 kids. Sadly, the 3 and 2 year old kids were much better travelers than the husband.

I want to get wet!!! It's 97 here today, but HEY, cold snap coming through in a couple days. Should only by 85 or so.

I didn't read rebook or rebok, I read Redbook. You can tell what kind of a girl I am. *grins sheepishly*

Memphis ain't that big...even if you were going from Terminal A to Terminal C it will only take you like 15 minutes

Wow! Looks like the sky was falling on Chicago!

I can't imagine having to wait in an airport for that long! I would have been the "bad" person on the trip, or I would have gotten drunk and passed out, which I'm sure all involved would prefer the latter! LOL

Glad you at least made it!

San Antonio! Y'all should make the drive to "Clear Springs." It's a restaurant just outside of SA near/in New Braunfels!

Best fried catfish (and lots of other yummy stuff). Best onion rings EVER!! And, the atmosphere is really nice! It's in an old gin that was converted into a restaurant and has tons of antique stuff and signs, etc.

The kids would love the nostalgia!!!

Happy Trip!!!!

Oh, and if you have time? A trip to Gruene would be fun too! Greune Hall is where George Strait was discovered!!! And, they filmed that movie, "Michael" there also (where John Travola play an angel.)

They have live music during the day and you can just kick back (in the heat but inside the Hall) and listen, dance, whatever....

Cowboy, thank goodness we hit Texas on a cool week!

Ambergail, it looks like we'll be heading back to Sea World on Friday - kids will be swimming with the sea lions!

Apple, I've had two days of getting wet - I'm going for three today!!

Dana said...

Bond, I may have to give you the flight details then. You might be sorry you offered *wink*

Bina, I just saw no reason to get my panties in a bunch over things I have no control over *shrugs*

Flyinfox, it's not looking like there will be any time to escape the family obligations here, but I haven't forgotten you!

Dana said...

Anndi, that should read, "...and still don't need bail money YET!" The week isn't over!!

Farmer'sWife, I'll ask about this. I know New Braunfels isn't far.

Apathy, I didn't know you were in Texas! I've always loved San Antonio, despite my whining about the heat.

Dana said...

Lu, shame on you!

G-Man, ever the optimist, I'm sure it will!!

tt, I hadn't considered a vlog, but today might offer an opportunity!

Cat, someone is ticling that dragon again today!

One of the good things about vacationing with kids is that they can provide relief when the adults are acting like CHILDREN. Sounds like a great VACA nonetheless and I hope the return trip gets you home safe. Great post as usual! Really enjoyed the pics. Will really check out that BBQ next trip thru San Antonio!

Take care
