Ice, Ice, Baby ...

This is what dumped on northwestern Illinois last night, and continues to dump as I type ...

Although beautiful, the 1/2" of ice is wrecking havoc. My driveway can now be used as an ice hockey rink and only warm water would allow me access to my car door. Schools are closed (at the last minute - just 25 minutes before the bus was due) and my 11 yo is driving me insane with his "bordom." Not quite sure why he doesn't appreciate my ideas to keep him busy - cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming - these are things that keep me from being bored, but it seems he'd rather spend his time on Club Penguin. He's cleaning bathrooms now *evil mom grin*

Love that pic!

We had an ice storm here about 12 years ago. I was without power for two weeks. It was horrible.

Here's wishing you some of the 75 degree weather that we're having today!

That's weird! We're north of you, and it RAINED here most of the day! God bless 34 degrees instead of 32 degrees.....

We got lucky here. Really, REALLY heavy rain, but the temps stayed just above freezing. What a disaster that would have been!

Hey, I know how to relieve the kid's boredom! Hand him a shovel and tell him to break up the ice and shovel the driveway clean. LOL ;-)

RLL, 75 degrees? You do realize it will likely be MAY before I see those temps again, don't you??

buffalodickdy, I'm jealous! It rained all day and as of about 6pm, the roads were freezing solid again.

doggybloggy, I'm driving to South Bend, IN on Friday, so I'm REALLY hoping it warms up. *WEATHER UPDATE* High of 25, low of 12 on Saturday, but no snow/ice/rain!

Jay, you'll never guess what he spent a big chunk of the day doing? Yes, he VOLUNTEERED to shovel ice. Of course, being the 11 yo boy that he is, what this really meant was that the shovel became a Segway on Ice and he slid far more than he shoveled - but it DID keep him entertained!

Well it is pretty. Hope 11 yr old is back to school tomorrow since he is bored at home. Mine would love a day home.

My kids were really UN-annoying, surprisingly enough! We watched "A Christmas Story"

It poured down rain on top of our ice, which of course froze once the sun went down. According to this mornings news the roads are 90% clear though, so BACK TO SCHOOL!

I'm confused...someone dumped christmas lights in your yard??? LOL

How can a child be bored when you have an ice skating rink in your driveway!

Enjoy :)

baseball mom, yes, male child is back to school today - WooHoo!

Leighann, we gathered even more ice overnight, but the roads were far better this morning than they were yesterday.

RockDog, again, that is what happens when you allow an 11 and 12 year old to choose holiday decorations! Either that or the ice fairies brought them!
