Friday Wrap-Up

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I heard this morning that the election is less than 100 hours away - it seems to have been going on for 100 years. Maybe I'm just more cynical these days, but it sure feels like the blogshpere is dripping with nastiness over this thing. I've dropped many blogs from my reader in the past few weeks out of sheer frustration. Great bloggers have turned into political pundits and I found myself getting sucked right in by it all - participating in commentary that was not constructive - and began doing the very thing I was complaining about - being nasty. If your blog has been focusing on politics, and I haven't been commenting, it's nothing personal - I just don't want to be part of the problem as I see it. I'll be back as soon as you get back to your regularly scheduled blogging!

Veggie Tales live was a BLAST! Seriously, Cam and I had a wonderful time. We both got to let loose without concern of judgment by anyone - and let loose we did - dancing in the aisles, singing at the top of our lungs and cheering for Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato!

Cam is attending a Halloween party tonight with a "date." Of course, this means that I'll be playing chauffeur - 45 minutes each way - and the party doesn't get over until 11PM. I just hope I can stay up that late. I had better raid the candy bowl and eat lots of chocolate in preparation.

Speaking of Halloween, do any of the rest of you have official Trick-or-Treating hours in your towns? I just visited the village website and discovered that Trick-or-Treating hours are from 3PM-8PM. When I was growing up, you NEVER went out before 6PM - it was common courtesy to allow families to eat their dinner before you started ringing their doorbell. And you always skipped any house without a porch light on - that was the universal sign that they were crabby old geezers not honoring the Trick-or-Treating tradition. I find it a little disturbing that lack of common sense now dictates that we set "official" Trick-or-Treating hours. And what happens if a kid violates the hours? Is there a special Halloween posse out there looking to take away all of their candy as punishment?

One more thing! I can now proudly say that the blogiversary winners gifts were not only sent, but received! If you haven't been there, go visit Lu to see the grand prize loot, including the lap blanket I made for her while half-nekkid! Knight did a wonderful vlog tribute to the special shirt I came across that just screamed out her name, and Ms. Lily sent me a very nice Thank You email! Y'all have such good manners!

Our Trick or Treat hours are from 5-8 and we only go to houses with porch lights on. Security lights that come on via a sensor don't count.

What's Cam dressing up as tonight? A "date" huh? I hope he has a good time!

Our neighbors tried to talk us into being Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife Beth, but I had to say "no" I just don't think my boobs are big enough! *giggle*

And on a completely unrelated note, listen to this when you have time....

Congrats to the winners! I love Knight's shirt and she's just precious with the Pop Rocks.

I'm with you on the election blogging. I've had enough of it. Thanks very much.

Have fun on the Cam date! Here's hoping you don't turn into a pumpkin!

Politics, thats what makes the world go around. But we should all be civil about the debate.

You see, that is why I went to a weeks worth of music.

I don't think we have hours...but I know there are some towns where it is against the law to trick or treat after dark!!!!!

I thought about doing a political post this week, but I figured most people are so tired of it all that I changed my mind. Still might do a big, onetime post on Sat or Sunday though. Can't decide.

We didn't have any official hours, but my mother turned out the porch light at 9 pm. She didn't see any reason why anyone should still be out past 9. And you NEVER knock on a door if the porch light is out. It's just rude! LOL ;-)

We have trick or treating from 6-8pm, and depending on the amount of leftover candy we have, we will keep the light on until 8:30.

Woo Hoo sugared up kids!

I don't know what our hours are here. I usually wait till dark and yeah, after dinner and only hit the neighbors I know. We don't need a pillowcase full of candy. LOL

I agree people should wait until after 6 but no one has common courtesy anymore. You know that. :P

Trick or treating at 3:00pm WTF? We always had to wait until after dinner, (of course with plenty of begging for and early dinner).

I usually am the one at home while Lisa is out with the boys. By 9:00 the younger kids are done and it's just a bunch of teens. I think this year instead of giving the older ones candy, I'll hand out job applications.

I also agree with you about the excessive political commentary. Some sites are good about encouraging sincere debates, but for the most part they are just as nasty as many of the commercials we have to endure.

I will be soooooo glad when this election is over and there is more than one topic that some will talk about again.

Special trick or treat hours??? 3-8pm.....what's going on?? Am I becoming an old foggie?? cuz I'm thinking that's just stupid. Who's home at 3 anyway??? I know some people are, but what about thw working parents and such...Pfft...just dumb.
I Loved the shirt you sent knight...and the rocks...Cute!

I agree Dana.

When I was young enough to Trick-or-Treat, you had to wait until after dinner, and it was close to dusk, usually.

Then, one parent would "man" the door of the house for all of the visitors to your home, while the other would act as an escort, and walk you about the neighborhood for you to go to complete strangers' houses and get goodies.

You skipped houses with no lights on, and you always said "thank you" after getting whatever you were given.

Usually if it was past 8 or 8:30, the adult would then herd all the kids back to the house, where the kids would then proceed to dump out their bags, and gloat over their candy horde while the parents watched the scary shows being shown on TV.

That, and the parents would also approve and discard questionable treats as well.

What's happened to those days?

I bet you were kinda turned on by Larry the Cucumber weren't ya? Cheers!!

M said...

Heck no! We do it right in the boondocks. You trick or treat on actual Halloween and you go whenever.

We're going early because of the football game tonight though.

Brian Gardes said...

We don't have official hours. We try to turn the light off by 9:00. Unfortunately we have had rude little shits showing up as late as 10:30 (even with the light off) begging for candy.

Tonight Emmy and I have tickets for David Sedaris, so we have outsourced all trick or treating activities to a friend!

I have tried to avoid all political commentary on my blog (or on others). The way I see it, my mind is made up. Your mind is made up. Why bother? Let's just get back to the boobies!

Have a happy Halloween!

I remember that too - when trick or treating didn't even start until dark. Now, it's all like during light hours. Bummer.

Dana said...

Leighann, I think you and hubby would have made a wonderful Dog the Bounty Hunter and Beth! And Damn! That is one hell of a song!

RLL, Knight does pop rocks like no one I've ever seen before!

Doomed, civil would be good. I'm just tired of the negativity!

Dana said...

Bond, and I am so grateful for your music week! The couch has been wonderfully comfortable this week.

Jay, I think I should have added trick-or-treat etiquette to my manners post.

ASM, gotta love the weeks of sugar rushes that follow the holiday!

Dana said...

FF, common courtesy - if it was only common!

Jeff, my fear is that the election is only the begining of the nastiness. Somehow I don't see a coming together of this country no matter who wins.

tt, we had only 5 groups of trick-or-treaters after 6PM! I'm guessing most of the kids were out before then.

Dana said...

Jormengrund, you know, it doesn't seem like it was that long ago, but I sure feel like those were the good old days!

Matt-Man, I'm in love with Larry!

M, the boondocks do have some benefits.

Dana said...

garbonzo, outsources your trick-or-treating?? What kind of heathen are you?? *giggle*

Rage, it appears that most of ours were done before 6PM!

buffalodick said...

Nothing offical.. We start getting kids after 6-6:15, and stay with it until 15 minutes go by without a visitor- then it's lights out!

Karen said...

Kids here start right after school...so about 4ish on. I went to my own party around 7:30 and there will still HOARDS of kids everywhere.

Dana, your are right about the negativity. The reason the candidates and we the people resort to negativity is because it works. The reason negativity works is because rational thought, critical thinking and common sense are virtues that many people do not possess. Nor are these virtues taught in school or at home very much anymore. Argue with logic in politics and you will lose. We may be sick of negative political campaigning and negative comments made to us at work or home. But negative comments during the election cycle made by fools for fools will always be with us as it has always been with us. The negative ads of today are tame compared with those from the past. And remember, real negative comments used to be dealt with on dueling fields. How I wish for the old days.

We have specific hours 6-8 but yes I remember going just s it was getting dark and having common sense be the cut off. You would never go to a house with no lights on.

Lu' said...

We not only have specific hours 6 to 8 pm and you may only approach if the porch light is on, but it is the Thursday before October 31 that they trick or treat here, wierd isn't it. They also drive to where the busy neighborhoods are to get more bang for the beg. I guess you can understand it with the rural dwellers. We had 6 kids in the entire 2 hours, mmm guess I'll have to eat the left overs :) We would go out right after supper and stay out until quite late.

Average Chick said...

We've always had hours. Usually 4-7.....And I always followed the porch light thing. Luckily I missed out this year....the idiotic kids in this neighborhood never follow the porch light thing....

katherine. said...

hours for trick or treating? That is so un-american!! Must be the liberal aristocracy trying to make it the same for everyone!

smile.

We use to sing the veggie tales songs all the time...now everybody is all grown up....I am patiently waiting for grandchildren...sigh...

I want the elections over too...but like you am concerned for the country when half the people are gonna be really angry...

We only had two all night, but we did get home pretty late from our Halloween adventure. Almost 7:30! ;)

Vixen said...

Ooo, a Halloween date! I hope everything went ok.

I have heard of Halloween 'times' but not in our state. And I agree with you, we never go out before 6 and I don't know anyone else (here) that does either). Most people aren't even HOME before like 5!

Vixen said...

Oh. And I TOTALLY hear you on the political garbage on blogs. Granted it's their 'space' to talk about whatever they like. But I'm not interested and I have done the same thing you have...I tune out any of the political posts.

Dana said...

Buff, I'm not sure what our need for "rules" is, but my guess is that it stems from a lack of common sense!

Karen, We had no one after 7:30!

Doomed, maybe we should start giving a rational thought, critical thinking and common sense test prior to allowing anyone to vote!

Dana said...

Turnbaby, I'm telling you, it all comes back to manners!

Lu, What?? The day before Halloween? What is this country coming to? And we're worried about national health care *wink*

Average, I missed out for the most part too, but husband enjoys the little kids anyway!

Dana said...

Kat, my biggest concern is what happens afterward, no matter who wins.

Corky, you are such a party animal!!

Vixen, this is definitely Cam's first "love" He is quite smitten with Chey and handled himself like quite a gentleman!

I swear Dana, I'm so sick of hearing and reading about the election. And I thought it wasn't proper to discuss religion or politics? Well, with ME it's not anyway. I'm a pretty damn smart person, but when it comes to politics, I don't have a clue because I believe NOTHING anyone says.

Okay, our hours, and everywhere I have EVER lived, has been 6 - 8 PM. And people have always followed that as well.

I'm so jealous about the Veggie Tales! I would LOVE to take my daughter to see them if they ever came here. It sounds great!
