Friday Wrap-Up

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

First things first (I've always hated that phrase. What are we going to do? Talk about second things first??), I want to thank all of you who stopped by yesterday and left such wonderful comments. I told someone earlier in the week that I was going to do something different - I was going to try sensual. I really didn't think I had a snowball's chance in hell of making it happen. Showing tits is one thing - but showing emotion? Especially vulnerability? And in a photo? I just didn't know if I could do it - if I wanted to do it. I'm glad that I did!

A special thanks to Vixen who actually selected my HNT for her Friday Favorites. Her blog is a special place to land on Friday Mornings. Y'all should stop by - really - and not just on Friday's!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

What is it with some bloggers and their stat counters? I got an IM from a blogger yesterday who had noticed I hadn't been on their blog for a few weeks (the blogger had been monitoring the visitor information). First, I know most of the blogs I read aren't commercial ventures - why the infatuation preoccupation with the stat counter? And this blogger isn't the only one who seems to share this obsession. Yes, I have looked at the details of visitors to my blog when there were issues with certain commentors, and I do peek to see the number of hits I have to the blog, but the details? Sure, I enjoy the posts that list odd search terms that led people to the blog, or strange visitor IP addresses, but c'mon, tracking people down just for the sake of being nosey? Maybe I'm missing something ...

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I've got a "date" with a blogger tonight! This is exciting on several fronts. First, I am always thrilled to have the opportunity to meet someone I've read and heard much about. This blogger is in town for a convention and we've made plans for dinner and a show.

As much as I am looking forward to the "date," this is also a huge test on my social anxieties. Not only am I meeting a "stranger," *gasp* but I'm driving into Chicago, having dinner in an unfamiliar restaurant, and attending an interactive show. Even more impressive? I told (not asked) husband exactly what I am doing, and ignored his belittling protests concerns.

I hope to have pictures - maybe even a vlog - to share with all of you tomorrow!

Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!

I don't get the obsession with stat counter either. I have no freaking clue how many people read mine. I could probably guess around 15-20. I do get on there every once in awhile to see what people searched to find me because that's just plain funny.

Have fun on the "date" tonight!! I'm sure it will be a blast! I'm with you on the husband issue. I'm leaning toward just a straight up lie.

While I would never IM someone for their lack of hitting my blog, I do check mine often. I find it interesting who reads and how often and most recently how a few pervs kept hitting one of my HNT posts repeatedly. I have since removed the picture.

I think HNT is lots of fun and all but who wants creeps to keep hitting the same entry and not even commenting? All I could think was save the damn thing to your computer, ya perv. :P

I have to say it does kind of hurt my feelings (cheezy I know) when friends just stop reading my blog. To me it's like they just stopped caring. So I do notice but I'd never say anything.

Maybe this person just thought of you the same way? Like a friend who had suddenly lost interest. That's my take anyway.

Feels good to stand firmly on those two feet doesn't it. Maybe this is something you two need in the relationship? Who knows, but if it is good for you, then I'm for it. Have a good time. Hey when I want to do something and hubby doesn't, I go alone. I know this isn't the same because I'm guessing you didn't invite yours along...

Have fun tonight Dana. Make sure you order Liver and Lima Beans for dinner. Have a great weekend as well. Cheers!!

Have a great time tonight Dana! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

As for the Stat counters? fuck 'em. They are just numbers.

Hey, maybe this is a topic for the Hurt Locker?

I used to watch my stats much more closely, but over the last 4-5 months, not so much. I do look at the overall number as it is getting close to a milestone number...but have never tracked someone down and said why are you not reading

Have a wonderful time this evening and I bet it felt good to shut out the voice and stay true to you!

Have a great weekend Dana

Maybe it is not an obsession, but I keep an eye on my stat counter. It is just fun to see who is stopping by and where the new folk come from. Also the search terms that lead people to the blog are always amazing.

Enjoy your date.

I don't pay that much attention to my tracker either. I always forget I have it. I don't understand the infatuation. I hope you have a great date!

M, I do know how many hits I get and how many first time visitors (by the counter's definition) I have daily, and some times I'll even look to see where people are coming from so that I can say "thanks" if someone has linked me, but the other stuff? *shrugs*

I have to tell you it was extremely liberating to be honest - there have been too many "fibs" in the past.

FF, interesting! I can certainly identify with the creepy HNT hits - but if they save your pic to their hard drive their wife might find it! Far easier to delete the browser history *wink*

I guess part of my confusion on the stat counter issue is that I read several blogs (yours fits in this category) from my reader and only hit the blog if I plan on leaving a comment. Stat counters can't (I don't think) pick that up, so there could be hundreds of people reading you that you may not even be aware of. I guess I just find their usefulness limited.

Lu, in the 5 years we've been together I can count - on one hand - the number of times I've gone out without husband. One of many things I realized during the imfamous road trip is that I need to make sure that I make myself happy, because waiting for him to do it is futile.

Matt-Man, I think I'll skip L & L tonight and opt for a few pints of Belgian White instead!

Flyinfox, I think it's a wonderful topic for the Hurt Locker!

Bond, I can understand the usefulness of the general knowledge factor of the stat counter, I was just taken aback by this IM, especially coming from a blogger that I read maybe once or twice a week - at best.

Karen, the search terms are a riot - I get the more hits from "My Mom's Vibrator" than I care to admit!

Knight, I'll be sure to share all of the sordid details in a later post - assuming I am able to get the blogger's permission!

I never get to meet anyone!

Have a great time Dana!

Dana, I hope you have a wonderful time and I can't wait to hear all about it! How exciting!

And I never even LOOK at my stat thing. I guess I care more about other people's blogs than I do my own!

Order Fava beans and a nice Chianti with the liver*giggling*

You did sensual and vulnerable just perfectly lovely lady.

And good on you for taking charge of your pleasure.

Looks like a great show! Have fun on your "date". It isn't Matt-man is it?

I love my stat-counter. But, I would never text someone to figure out why they are not leaving me a message. I just like to see how many hits i got and where they are coming from. And, I agree, the search terms are pretty funny.

A blogger date! How fun. Can't wait to see pictures and hear all about it!

And you are most welcome, you deserved it. You pulled the emotion off very well and it was a beautiful photo. :)

My stat counter actually gives me anxiety. Bc I check it to see if people I *don't* want to read it are. But I would NEVER email or out right ask someone why they haven't visited my site. LOL That actually cracks me up that someone would do that. Sheesh!

Have a great wkend chickie! xo

I can't explain the hitmeter obsession, but so many seem to have it...

... I do recall one day clicking on the "World Map" on my sitemeter, on "day/night" setting. It was midwinter and northern Europe all plunged in deepest darkness and this sprinkling of my last 100 hits across North America, down through Europe to the Middle East, across India and South East Asia through Australia... bright like diamonds... and I'm thinking "someone loves me"

;->...

just that one time it gave me a real lift...

LOL ... I like to look through my stat counts, but I never look to see if any particular person is visiting.

I admit that I do every once in a while think "Hey, So-in-So hasn't commented in a while. But, I never go to my stat counter and looks to see if that person has been by.

But, I have gotten a couple of emails from people asking why I haven't been by their blog. Seriously. It's weird.

Oh, you know I get what you're saying. I use that google reader thing, too and it's awesome but for most of the people I read I do try to leave a comment. The exceptions would be the people who get soooo many comments that it doesn't even matter and isn't worth my time to comment (i.e. Perez Hilton & the Pioneer Woman).

Why do people read and not comment? I hate that! LOL

Oh, and I totally get it now on the HNT pic. Ha! Funny. Hadn't thought of that at all.

You pulled your HNT shot off well, Dana. You show more vulnerability than you think you do. Your *date* sounds like fun, and good on ya for taking matters into your own hands.

Dana said...

Slick, maybe that should tell you something *wink*

Bina, I'm sure we will have a blast!

Turnbaby, taking charge of my pleasure? I do that at least once a day *gigglesnort*

Dana said...

garbonzo, and what if it was Matt-Man??

Vixen, I think - like you - I wouldn't want to know who was visiting the blog. Ignorance really can be bliss some times!

Gledwood, thanks for stopping by! I think I'll market a stat counter 12-step program!

Dana said...

Jay, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets those goofy inquiries. I even had someone ask me if I'd pissed *you* off because you always give b-day shout-outs and they noticed you didn't give me one *giggle*

FF, Why do people read and not comment? I hate that! LOL *raises hand* Guilty! I sometimes don't having anything of "value" to say, so just keep up with the blogger until I do!

Boo, thank you *blushes*

The stat counter obsession is weird. I don't even have one anymore. I hope your date goes well. The HNT was very nice, even though I never got around to commenting. =)

I put one of those map counter do-dads up on mine. It's kind of cool to see where people are visiting from in the world, but as for specifics, I could really give a rip. I've got much more important things to do than worry if so and so has visited in the last thirty-nine and a half minutes.

Glad you're asserting your independence as well. Sounds like a critical step in moving forward. Maybe, just maybe, hubby will see the light and realize paying attention to you and giving you the respect you deserve is in order.

I do the same. Guilty as charged! Don't always comment bc I dont wanna seem like I'm *intruding* in on other's conversations or because, like you said, I can't think of anything of value to say. So I'll usually just read so I know what's going on because I like to see what's happening and how people are doing. ; ) Does that make me a blog*eavesdropper? Hmmm.....

Because I'm private, I dont get crazy searches and I have no idea what my # is. But like Vixen, I just check to see on those who are of greatest concern to me. Just one, I mean. Thats all.

And I loved your very vunerable & sensual pic yesterday.

And I hope you have a super fun time tonite. And good 4 you about your hubby. I have a very *smiliar* sorta hubby, one might say ; ) (sigh)
